Creation vs curation: reimagining learning for a modern workforce

Work environments and jobs are changing at a rapid pace, and the skills required are evolving too. In the past, information and learning moved from top to bottom of an organization – now, learners often know more about the content than their managers and facilitators.It has become challenging for Learning & Development (L&D) teams to create everything everyone needs to do their jobs in the new world of work. This means that L&D teams are finding new and creative ways to respond to requests, and are creating stimulating environments to inspire learner’s curiosity.

Join us for a lively discussion, where our panelists will explore the mindset and capabilities required for learning professionals to thrive in the modern workplace. Our panelists will share best practices on how the organizations that they work with are shifting their mindset and approaches to respond.

Speaker Biographies

 

Louise Grummitt is a Managing Partner with Benchmark, with over 30 years experience in performance and learning. Louise recently led the team that developed the Competencies for Learning and Development Professionals, including the addition of a new category of competencies for designing curricula.

Louise teaches instructional design at the Schulich School of Business – Masters Certificate in Adult Training and Development (MCATD).

Her favourite client projects involve breakthrough thinking – combining foundational best practices with new ways of thinking about performance and learning to create solutions that make a difference in people’s performance and engagement.

Alpesh Mistry supports strategic learning initiatives for RBC leaders and employees in new and innovate ways. He is a strategic learning advisor for RBC National Office, Senior Design Manager for RBC Learning & Development and an organizing member for RBC’s Design Thinking Centre of Excellence.

Prior to RBC, Alpesh spent 8 years developing and delivering Design Thinking programs at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. While at Rotman, he made essential contributions to leading edge business education and has consulted on projects for global clients such as Nestlé and Medtronic. Alpesh holds a Masters of Education (M.Ed.), from the University of Toronto and a Bachelors of Design (BDes.), Major in Industrial Design from the Ontario College of Art & Design University.

Lori Niles-Hofmann is a senior learning adviser with 15 years of global experience in industries ranging from finance, consulting, and marketing. She has led through the L&D alphabet starting with the old CD-ROMs up to the LMS and onward to AR and VR. She blogs regularly at www.lori.ca and is the author of the eBook Data-Driven Learning.

Barry Nelson is the General Manager and Founder of Practical Management of Canada. He is a business author, strategist, and facilitator who regularly engages with management in strategic assessment and facilitated planning as well as business planning and follow -up programs. Clients know him for his: unparalleled facilitation skills, measurement, and long term follow-up.
